Mu visit to this beautiful hotel was intended to be a solo, luxurious, relaxing experience. The staff were exceptionally courteous. The manner with which the staff passing in hallways treated me, made me feel like royalty. The bed is wonderfully comfortable. Clearly the intention is to provide the guests with superior sleeping accommodation.|I had both in room food service as well as on the premise, Heron restaurant.|All exceptionally tasteful.|The magnificent landscape, lake and nature surrounding the hotel provides additional opportunity to relax.|I enjoyed my time at the well equipped gym facility. As well, I had made a message appointment in advance which allowed the use of sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.|All were most enjoyable & relaxing experience one can have in a span of few days stay. My appreciation to the staff and management.

My husband and I travelled for a quick staycation, anniversary celebration. The staff was so professional and knowledgeable! The room was exceptional, beautiful and had an amazing view and balcony. We loved the bar and the turn down service! The shower was so nice and steamy and the linens were wonderfully luxurious. Combined with the delicious food from Heron's this made Umstead my new favorite place!

I got a spa day as a surprise birthday gift for my wife, her best friend who lives out of state came in to surprise her at the spa and they had an exceptional day at Umstead Spa! I coordinated with the staff for this surprise for my wife and they were happy to help. They took tremendous care of my wife and her friend, the attention to detail, the many tranquil places, and the amazing manicures and pedicures they received, all exquisitely done. I also got them lunch at Heron's as part of their girls' day and they both said the food and beverages were stellar! Whether you want a stay at their hotel, a service at their spa, or food from Heron's, it is worth every penny for whatever you're thinking of planning here! My thanks again, Umstead Spa, for the amazing day and gift for my wife!

The room was large and comfortable, with two tables and a sofa in the bedroom and a nice ensuite bathroom with a good shower. |I measured the WiFi at 39 Mbps download and 38 Mbps upload, so perfectly respectable if not exactly racy. The breakfast here was good, made to order.|The staff I encountered weee helpful and polite. ||There is an outside terrace for drinks and a pretty lake with a circular walk around it just in the hotel grounds. Alternatively there is a gym, though this is a less scenic way to burn calories. The Umstead is an excellent hotel based on this and my previous stay here a year ago.

Came here for just the high tea, and loved it! There was a live harp player and the staff/kitchen was accommodating towards my vegetarian diet. The vibe was very soothing and the black tea was excellent. I came for my birthday and they included a chocolate birthday card :)

The Umstead simply does not miss. The hotel was a revelatory moment on the hospitality scene when it first opened and it remains so today. This space sits head and shoulders above anything else in town. Come to stay, come to eat, and come to visit the spa where Lilly gave one of the best treatments I've had in recent memory. What a spot!

Even though both of my stays at the Umstead Hotel have been short (wedding anniversary and birthday celebration), I truly appreciate how enthusiastic and pleasant everyone is on the hotel grounds, from the valet parking, to the concierge desk, the housekeeping staff, the Heron's Restaurant hosts and servers. Wish I could name everyone by name, but they are ALL appreciated. The ambiance throughout the hotel is INCREDIBLE. Rooms are impeccable. I highly appreciate the fact that smoking is not allowed. Have not experienced the spa yet, but next time I will.
As a business owner, I can tell that the staff members as treated well and it shows in their everyday attitudes when they show up to work. Way to go Umstead. Keep doing what y'all doing.

The absolute best spa and best massage we have ever had in our lives! What a wonderful place and experience with wonderful people. We didn't stay the night, we only used the spa and restaurant but, it was all superb! The burger was delicious and cooked to perfection and juicy. I cannot stress enough how perfect the massage was. Other places have you lay flat on your back when you flip over but they pushed a button to angle it AND put a warm wash cloth under my neck, it was extremely comfortable and the pressure was perfect. The fact you can spend the day there made it so special and I've never been so relaxed. Worth every single penny!
