J&S Head Spa

I’ve been eagerly waiting nearly two years to experience a Japanese head spa, and I decided to treat myself to one today on my birthday. As a licensed cosmetologist who has worked in customer service since I was 14, I rarely complain or write negative reviews because I understand how challenging this industry can be. But my experience at J&S Head Spa was far below any reasonable expectation. I originally planned to book with Hairplay, but since they were closed on Sundays, I decided to try J&S Head Spa based on their glowing reviews—even though it’s located in a somewhat sketchy part of town. From the moment I walked in, I could tell something was off. The overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke hit me as soon as I stepped inside. I assume the cold weather pushed them to smoke indoors, but it was absolutely off-putting. Still, I didn’t want to be overly judgmental, so I proceeded to check in. The front desk girl was nice but had a significant language barrier, which made communication difficult. Then things got really uncomfortable. She led me behind a curtain where another customer was undressed. Thankfully, another staff member intervened and directed her to take me to a different room, but that moment set the tone for the rest of my experience. The room itself was poorly maintained—a grungy chair that clearly wasn’t cleaned as thoroughly as it should be. I wasn’t given any clear instructions, so I kept my tank top and pants on, threw the towel around me, and sat in the chair. There was no warm welcome or explanation of what to expect—just a very abrupt start to the service. The service itself was chaotic and anything but relaxing. The person working on me was clearly in training, and she spent the majority of the time aggressively scratching my head with her fingernails. I kept making facial expressions, hoping she’d realize how uncomfortable I was, but she didn’t stop. Another staff member, presumably training her, kept stepping in to show her proper massage techniques, but as soon as she walked away, the scratching resumed. What was supposed to be a calming experience turned into nearly 90 minutes of discomfort. I was literally counting down the minutes until it was over. When the service finally ended, I was wrapped in a towel and left to figure out how to get out of the chair myself, as no instructions were provided. Then I was taken to the drying station—and this was the most disgusting part of the entire experience. The brushes were full of other people’s hair. I told the staff I didn’t want my hair brushed or dried and just wanted to leave, but they insisted. The front desk girl started drying my hair, and I was horrified. I left feeling grossed out, disappointed, and completely let down. Plus a headache from the smoke. This was meant to be a special treat for my birthday, but it was the opposite of relaxing or luxurious. If I could give 0/5 stars, I absolutely would.

First, trust that when I say it smells like cigarettes... it smells like an ash tray. There's no real soothing tranquility in the place. I heard people walking by and not to mention, you're not in a room.... you're in a cubicle like room made of sheer cloth so you hear every little thing. The table was very hard to lie on for an hour. I would say half of the treatment was very tender, uncomfortable, and borderline rough. The other half was nice. My hair smells like old cigarettes though. They only uses the water halo for 5 min of the whole treatment. The rest of the time, the used a hose like they would at a hair salon. So I basically paid for extensive shampooing like a salon. The hair steam part made me feel like I was in a bucket listening to the water drain for 15 minutes. Kinda tortuous. I will not go back and I will try other places for Japanese hair spa in hopes they aren't like this experience. I'm not sure if it's cultural or just something they think is good. There wasn't another soul in the place except workers. Makes sense now. This place won't last

Do not waste your time or money. This place is so unprofessional. My boyfriend booked an appointment for us online and then confirmed via text message 👀 we waited for over twenty minutes inhaling what smelled like cigarette smoke and piss. I don’t care what the comment from the owner says. I’ve been to Korean bath houses and steeped my whole body in mugwort baths and it doesn’t smell like that. There was employees’ food and snacks everywhere. We were never offered a beverage, so I doubt those items were for sale. An employee sat on the couch texting the whole time we were waiting. Twenty minutes later another employee uses a translator app to tell us to wait a few more minutes. Another couple walks in , after about five minutes of four different employees going back and forth in Korean they’re shown to a room before we are. At which point I let them know they were ridiculously unprofessional and we would not be spending money there.

I really enjoyed the experience but it left my hair smelling for days. I'm not sure what products they used in my hair but even after 2 deep shampoos and conditionings at home the smell lingered.

Just experienced the head spa and it was amazing! This treatment far exceeded my expectations! I will definitely be back and am excited to get a facial next time.

The scalp message was fabulous. Wonderfully relaxing and unique experience. 10 out of 10.
